Why Your Plant Is Struggling (And It's Not Your Fault)

You followed the instructions. You watered it. You gave it a window spot. And somehow, it still looks sad.

Before you give up on plants entirely, let's run through the most common reasons your plant isn't thriving.

Too much water Yellow leaves, mushy stems, soil that never seems to dry out. This is the most common problem. Scale back your watering and check that your pot has drainage.

Not enough light Leggy growth, pale leaves, slow or no new growth. Your plant is reaching. Move it closer to a window or try a grow light.

Root bound If roots are coming out of the drainage holes or circling the top of the soil, your plant has outgrown its pot. Time for a size up.

Stress from a new environment Plants drop leaves when they move. If you just brought it home and it's throwing a fit, give it two to four weeks to adjust before you panic.

Most plant problems are fixable. And honestly, killing a plant is just practice for keeping the next one alive.
